About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop
invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly
diagnosed cancer among American women. Just under 30% of cancers in women are
breast cancers.
In 2011, there were more than 2.6 million breast cancer
survivors in the US.
About 39,520 women in the U.S. were expected to die in 2011 from breast cancer, though death rates have been decreasing since 1990 — especially in women under 50. These decreases are thought to be the result of treatment advances, earlier detection through screening, and increased awareness

A woman’s risk of breast cancer approximately doubles if she
has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed
with breast cancer. About 15% of women who get breast cancer have a family
member diagnosed with it.
About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no
family history of breast cancer. These occur due to genetic mutations that
happen as a result of the aging process and life in general, rather than
inherited mutations.
Here are some videos i looked up to help me write and decide on what to say in my motion graphic-
this one shows why breast cancer is happening besides the obvious. this is lengthy but it shows good graphics and simple ways to represent things
this one is short and sweet, gives your 3 statistics and then a place to find more information and take action.
this video talks about people joining together in a run for breast cancer. I enjoyed the ribbon throughout the whole video guiding you into different scenes and connecting everyone together, just like the narrator says.
So in my video i would like to focus on breast cancer awareness. I know prevention is a big part but i feel as though you have to be aware of the issue before you can take action to prevent it.
script: 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their life time. besides lung cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. but not only women are effected by breast cancer. Women with close relatives that have or had breast cancer have double the risk of getting it. Last year there were 2.6 million cancer survivors and the death rates have been dropping since 1990. These numbers have been dropping because of the rise of awareness since 1990 and With awareness comes prevention. So be aware of the risks, take precautions and take a stand for your health, your mother's health and your sisters and join the fight against breast cancer!
