pre-crit

pre-critique with small groups- Make flavors type larger.  Maybe add tree top to the bottom of the ending screen. speed up the snowflakes.  Add blur on the candy passing by.

Mr. Pannifino- spoke to me and told me to maybe bring the candy circles in to the end to make up for the speed up time of the flavors passing by. Also ad more of a button to make the call to action clearer and that you can click on the ad to do that call to action.

final works

long banner ad: the snowflakes go by slower in this one than the smaller one. but i think it works ok still.  if i would change anything it would be to make the snowflakes go by a little faster.

Square banner ad: this one the snowflakes go by much faster than in the long one.  I think it is more successful with the ending frame with these dimensions.  But for the snowflakes going through and readability the long one works better. because of the longer time the snowflakes have to go across the full screen.

If i was to change anything it would be the snowflakes coming through at a speed that is between the first and second banner ad.  That would be a perfect medium.

Story Board

This is a screen shot of my storyboard for yogo crazy.  I decided to go with my first idea introducing the holiday flavors.  I had to edit out the christmas tree part at the end because of the size of the file.  I also changed that the name of the flavor appears with the flavor circle.

The ending frame i am unsure about. i did two versions one with a string of lights at the top, and the other with two strings of lights on top and bottom of the frame.  I like the second one better because it keeps the text in the middle of the screen.

Yogo Crazy

I am doing a frozen yogurt place called Yogo Crazy.  In my banner i want to introduce the Christmas flavors they have; eggnog, peppermint stick and gingerbread.  I also want to include that they not only have frozen yogurt, which some might think is not something tasty to eat in the midst of winter.  They also have hot chocolate, with different toppings such as caramel, marshmallow, chocolate or whip cream.  So i might just narrow it down to the hot chocolate or the new flavors because doing both is a lot to put into a banner ad.

For the new flavors one i would have the tag line come in saying: Looking for something to cheer you up this holiday? Snow will come and blow the text away and uncover: Then come try our new flavors.  then i will introduce the flavors, by having them blow in with the circles and snowflakes (the circles they use on their website) the text blow in with it peppermint stick, gingerbread and eggnog frozen yogurt. The circles and snowflakes will continue out of the screen to land on a Christmas tree as the decorations.   the ending text will read; Come join us at Yogo Crazy with our new holiday flavors.

Too cold for frozen yogurt? as a frozen yogurt cup flys into the picture. No problem because Yogo crazy has gone cocoa crazy! the screen starts to spin and stop with a hot cocoa cup there filling up with cocoa and then topped with toppings. and then the words appear: come grab a cup and top it with whatever you want!

example of good motion design

This isn't the commercial i saw on tv, but it still shows the good frame mobility that i enjoyed on the other commercial.  They did a good job of going with the voice as well. They also make good use of the quick cut from the fruit frame to the other yogurts.  The way they introduced the different flavors with the outward movement of the color circle was very clever and worked well.

Storyboard

This is a screen shot of my story board for breast cancer.

critique-10/31/12
-Add a third pink, maybe the pink in the logo
-think of diff ways to do the ribbon part-doesn't fit into the rest of motion
-keep women words straight on a baseline
-first 1 in 8 have third color in the one woman

re-vamped script

1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their life time. Women with close relatives that have or have had breast cancer have double the risk of getting it. Last year there were 2.6 million breast cancer survivors and the death rates have been dropping since 1990.  These numbers have been dropping because of the rise of awareness since then, and With awareness comes prevention.  So be aware of the risks, take precautions and take a stand for your health, your mother's, your daughter's, your wife's, your Aunt's, your grandmother's, your niece's, and your sister's health because statistics show that 1 of them will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Come join the fight against breast cancer!

breast cancer research

statistics I found that can be useful...

About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. Just under 30% of cancers in women are breast cancers.

In 2011, there were more than 2.6 million breast cancer survivors in the US.

About 39,520 women in the U.S. were expected to die in 2011 from breast cancer, though death rates have been decreasing since 1990 — especially in women under 50. These decreases are thought to be the result of treatment advances, earlier detection through screening, and increased awareness

A woman’s risk of breast cancer approximately doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. About 15% of women who get breast cancer have a family member diagnosed with it.

About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer. These occur due to genetic mutations that happen as a result of the aging process and life in general, rather than inherited mutations.

Here are some videos i looked up to help me write and decide on what to say in my motion graphic-
this one shows why breast cancer is happening besides the obvious. this is lengthy but it shows good graphics and simple ways to represent things

this one is short and sweet, gives your 3 statistics and then a place to find more information and take action.

this video talks about people joining together in a run for breast cancer.  I enjoyed the ribbon throughout the whole video guiding you into different scenes and connecting everyone together, just like the narrator says.

So in my video i would like to focus on breast cancer awareness. I know prevention is a big part but i feel as though you have to be aware of the issue before you can take action to prevent it.

script: 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their life time.  besides lung cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.  but not only women are effected by breast cancer.  Women with close relatives that have or had breast cancer have double the risk of getting it. Last year there were 2.6 million cancer survivors and the death rates have been dropping since 1990.  These numbers have been dropping because of the rise of awareness since 1990 and With awareness comes prevention.  So be aware of the risks, take precautions and take a stand for your health, your mother's health and your sisters and join the fight against breast cancer!

MTV bumper 2

This is the second version, this one puts more emphasis on the throw away idea. there are more crumpled up balls, to be thrown away, and eventually we are drowning in them.

Final MTV bump #1

My motion design 1.0.  This is my original video from the story board. The paper airplane idea relates to the throw away TV shows that are now on MTV, and in the end the paper has a handwritten note on it that says i want my... MTV, saying that i want my retro 90's MTV back not the crap that is on now.  This is also why i chose the color scheme i went with, because they are retro 90's MTV colors.

further updated and worked on storyboard

in this one i added a beginning and i added some doodles to the background. But i think i am going to stray away from the contour line drawings and go with  larger silhouettes and i am going to work with the typography and change colors.  Also i am going to cut out the beginning and i am going to cut out the uncrumpling of the paper at the end and instead include a bunch of balls piling up next to the MTV.

story board critique

here is my storyboard for the MTV bumper. The point i'm trying to get across with this is that i am bored as MTV now.  When i am bored i doodle and make planes, and spitballs and other things like this. some suggestions i got during critique are to...show the plane folding itself up in the beginning to show more of a story line, use stop motion type animation instead of smooth animation to fly the plane across the screen and unfold the paper,  also instead of the show title on the plane have the plane reveal the show behind it.

mood board finished

i am going for a 90's theme, with the lighter colors, and retro doodles and art.

MTV doodles

these are the kinds of doodles i want to incorporate into the background of my video

mood board for MTV

this is the beginning of my mood board for my MTV motion video.

MTV observation

My MTV observation was done on the show Snooki & Jwoww.  Unfortunately it was a marathon on and that is the only show I got to watch.  I think the message that this show was trying to put out is that these "famous" people are normal just like you, but really they are not normal at all.  The show made me feel ashamed for them, that they would put their ridiculous lives on camera for everyone to see the shameful things they do.  I feel like a lot of MTV shows are made to take things that are not perfect in peoples lives and stretch it out to make it even worse and more ridiculous than it really is and film it for the world to see.  I just feel like instead of these MTV reality stars becoming famous they are becoming infamous.  At one time or another on every show, every person has made themselves look like an idiot on television, for everyone including their whole family to see.  Even though I am disgusted by almost every show on MTV, I found it hard to turn the channel from this nonsense that Snooki and Jwoww were doing.  So I guess MTV is doing their job!
